I'd be more than happy to go $7.5Mx3 or $7Mx4 for him. He's not young but he's not showing any signs of slowing down.

That said, I have a real hard time believing SJ doesn't bring him back. Also, even if he does make it to UFA, he may not want to pick up and move across the country. Still something I'd explore if it were a possibility though.

Yeah, I'm sure SJS would want to bring him back. That being said, they still have Erik Karlsson, Joe Thornton, Gustav Nyquist and Joonas Donskoi as UFAs then Timo Meier and Kevin Labanc as RFAs. They've got a lot of work to do and can't keep all of them. Plus, I never would have imagined seeing Patrick Marleau in anything other than a Sharks jersey, so it's always a possibility.

Pavelski is a very interesting option Ben. Hard to see him leaving SJ but Panarin and Pavelski should be option A and B. Thanks again for the write up!

Pavelski would be a nice consolation prize, but i'm 99% sure he stays in SJ and at 35, you walk away if he requests a 3rd year. We all see the fallout now that the Leafs are scrambling for cap space with Marleau.

Of course, thanks for writing!

Sounds like they're not even going to entertain re-signing Nyquist. Given the reports about Karlsson wanting to head back to the East Coast and SJ's cap situation, it sounds like EK is gone as well. I still want to try and swing something for Labanc, be it an offer sheet or a trade. He's a Staten Island kid and offering more money than the Sharks to come back home may just be enough to get him interested.

Why would JP come to the island? He’s a UFA but he’s not leaving the west coast/SJ

Agreed that it's definitely likely that he stays. That being said, it would probably take a third year to pull him away. With Marleau, he was older when he signed in Toronto and had shown signs of decline for three straight seasons. Pavelski on the other hand has maintained a production average of between 66 and 70 points per 82 games for three seasons straight. He'd likely decline by the third year but it may not be as drastic as it was with Marleau.

Marleaus game was always built on his speed. He's lost a step and his biggest weapon.

Pavelski is arguably the best net-front player in the league. He can tip pucks for three more years and bring value to that contract. He's a good pickup for any team but still tough to see SJ letting him walk. They seem extremely loyal to their players.

You make a great point that he is still more useful than Marleau, it's just that if isles are spending that money, we would end up with Nelson making $6 mil as 3rd C. That is not an ideal situation. If there is a sudden decline or he just doesn't mesh with the lineup, Pavelski becomes an albatross. And other GM's would hold leverage in a trade.

I have a solution: Sign Pavelski, then sedate him, travel back 5 years and replace him with 30yr old Pavelski. When younger Pavelski tries to renege on contract, we show him the signed document. That would hold up in court right? lolololol

I have always liked L'il Joe and just for his leadership skills alone, a three year deal would be worth it. He is tough as nails and plays the game the way a few Islanders need to learn; (cough) Bailey! I don't see him leaving SJS, but if he does, I'd want him in an Isles jersey! Ben, it is so good to have a writer blogging here for the Islanders. Haven't had one since Dan was here for a drink of coffee.

#NHLJets C Jack Roslovic, a Columbus native, has fired his Columbus-based agent Ken Robinson, who has represented him for more than six years. Roslovic asked Winnipeg for a trade at least once last season, sources told The Athletic, because of a lack of role/playing time. 1/2

He's 22 and is a .86ppg player in the AHL and got garbage minutes in WPG. He's way more than an OK player. He averaged 9:45 per game.

I dont mind players like that to fill certain holes if team spends on more premier holes to fill, biggest need is C & sniper
